Interview 8 Bamboo Shoots Chanpha The Internet is rapidly becoming a leading instrument for communication and information all over the world. Nattawud Daoruang, a Thai child, has established many personal web sites to attract tourists from different corners of that world. Based on interviews with him via e-mail and some texts from his web sites, Bamboo Schoots magazine would like to give some information regarding the establishment and support used to develop these web sites. Nattawud Daoruang, at the age of 15, has created seven web sites. The information and photographs of his country posted on those sites are sent to many different people all over the world. Using the address www. ThailandLife.com. Nattawud writes that he has instituted web sites of "The Beach (Thai); Cartoon Books; New Movies; Scrabble; Thailand Guidebook; Thailand Pictures; and Thailand Life." Nattawud built his first web site when he was 12. Nattawud, whose nickname is Gor, said "My school taught me [how to form the web sites]". He has continued to learn by himself, taking his inspiration from the web sites of other people all over the world as well as by reading books and magazines. Nattawud's primary school has hundreds
of students-some as young as first grade-who have learned how
to establish web sites. Nattawud regularly trains younger students
on how to build web sites and how to take pictures using digital
cameras. In a Bangkok Post story published on July 5, 2000, it was reported that, "Thailandlife.com is a year old now and it has received more than 100,000 hits mostly from students and teachers overseas". Nattawud's father is a government official and his mother is a factory worker. He has only one brother. Although he has much web sites work to do, he still keeps up with his studies. Now in grade 9 in junior high school of Satree Samutprakarn, Nattawud likes to play football and basketball and read cartoon books in his spare time. And every evening and at the weekend, he usually works on his web site. |
