Welcome to the
20th World Scout Jamboree
The World Organization of the Scout Movement announces
that the 20th World Scout Jamboree
will be held from 28 December 2002 to 8 January 2003 at Sattahip, Chonburi
Province in Thailand and will be hosted by the National Scout Organization
of Thailand. The Royal Thai Government is pleased to support this world
youth event and extends its warm welcome to Scouts from all over the
world.
Scouts and Unit Leaders
Around 30,000 Scouts, Boys and Girls are
expected to participate in this event of the 3rd millennium.
The age requirement for participants is 14 to 17 years of age.
That is, those born between 29 December 1984 and 28 December
1988.
The scouts will be split up into troops
of 40 people. Each troop will have 4 leaders and 36 scouts, broken
down into 4 patrols. Each contingent must submit 1 adult leader
for every 9 scouts. Contingents who do not send enough youth
members to make up a full troop may combine with another country,
but then each contingent must submit an adult leader.

Theme
The Theme of the 20th World Scout jamboree
2003 is Share Our World, Share Our Cultures. This
is a unique opportunity for young people from all around the
world to take part in this world event in Scouting spirit of
sharing, living and learning our cultural diversity. The Cross
Roads of Culture, one of the 8 modules activities in this Jamboree,
will be a meeting point for youth.

Pre & Post Jamboree Program
The Pre and Post Jamboree Program provides
a great opportunity for Scouts to discover Thailand and/or to
discover new lands and make new friends in neighboring countries.
Upon the request of Contingents, and at their own cost, we can
organize a program in Thailand that will allow Contingent members
to become acquainted with Thai culture and hospitality, thanks
to the collaboration of schools, institutions, families, Scout
camps and local Scout groups. National Scout Organization in
the Asia-Pacific Region is willing to offer similar possibilities
in their respective countries. |
| Operation Sattahip
As a World Scouting event, it is important
to ensure that the Jamboree offers participants a real intercultural
experience. In order to do so, the event needs to bring participants
together from everywhere in the world. This is why it is now a
tradition to establish a Solidarity Fund to help Scouts from financially
less privileged countries to take part in the Jamboree. The name
of this fund is Sattahip Operation (the name of the place that
will be hosting the Jamboree). Through Sattahip Operation, we
aim to enable Scouts from at least 60 countries to take part in
the event.
Following the guidelines established by the
World Scout Committee, Sattahip Operation will receive 2.5% of
the registration fees paid by each participant in order to establish
the initial fund. However, the success of this operation largely
depends on voluntary contributions from National Scout Organizations.
Your Organizations solidarity can be expressed through a financial
contribution to the Operations fund or by directly helping participants
from specific national Scout Organizations to take part in the
jamboree. Any support will be welcome and duly acknowledged as
part of Sattahip Operation.
