Wat Phra Si
Thammarat or Wat Yai is in Phitsanulok Province. The temple
is located on the east bank of the Nan River. It was built
in the reign of King Lithai of the Sukhothai period. The
temple houses the Phra Phuttha Chinarat, which is the most
beautiful Buddha image in Thailand. The bronze image is
in the attitude of subduing evil. Later, King Ekathosarot
of the Ayutthaya period, gave gold to be beaten into gold-plating
and put on the image. He did this himself. Phra Phuttha
Phuttha Chinarat is in the west wihan of the temple. It
has very beautiful door panels of inlaid - mother of pearl.
The eastern wihas has Phra Attharot which
is a stucco Buddha image. A large Prang
is 36 metres high. There is a stairway that lead to the
vault which houses the Lord Buddha's relic.
